This morning, Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, announced that once the Skywalker Saga is complete, the next “Star Wars” film to be released will be by “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss… much to the dismay of the entire internet.

This news broke during our live-tweet of a Q&A session with Iger during the 6th Annual MoffettNathanson Media & Communications Summit.

It’s no secret that the Thrones fandom at large is less than happy with how the final season is playing out, and many blame this on Benioff and Weiss. With the most recent episode having the lowest Tomatometer score in the series’ history on Rotten Tomatoes, the timing for this announcement is unfortunate at best.

Regardless of the fandom’s reaction, Benioff and Weiss’ “Star Wars” film will release on Dec. 16, 2022.

Other news bites revealed in the call included:

Oh, and #AvengersEndgame will be on Disney+ on Dec. 11. $DIS

We can expect one more live-action #StarWars series to come to Disney+ beyond the Cassian Andor series and #TheMandalorian. $DIS

While there are no confirmed details on the third live-action “Star Wars” series, many fans and insiders believe it will be focused on Obi-Wan Kenobi.
