Cedar Point is selling large-scale wooden coaster car replicas

Guests can buy mini “Coaster Cutouts” of their favorite rides at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, but since bigger is always better when it comes to roller coasters, the park is now offering nearly life-size “Giant Cutouts,” which are eight times bigger than their counterparts.

The large-scale models of the cars from Maverick, Steel Vengeance, and Millennium Force were designed by Coaster Dynamix Designer Matthew Schmotzer and are currently only available at Cedar Point.

“The idea came up after I was thinking of bigger and better things to showcase the models,” Schmotzer said. “And what better way than to supersize them?”

Schmotzer says the giant Steel Vengeance model was initially constructed to promote the Cedar Point Frontier Festival craft booth where guests could purchase and build the mini Coaster Cutouts ($34.99), but once the park saw the giant coaster car, they asked him to make models for Maverick and Millennium Force as well.

The Giant Cutouts are made from a 4-foot by 8-foot sheet of plywood (eight times the original size’s 6-inch by 12-inch sheet), and Schmotzer said it takes him roughly three weeks to cut, sand, and glue each one together.

Cedar Point super fans can own their very own Maverick, Steel Vengeance, or Millennium Force large-scale coaster car model for $3,999.99 each. They aren’t available online, but small versions are at Cedar Point’s online store and some other small Coaster Cutouts and kits are available at Coaster Dynamix.
