Universal parent company Comcast names new co-CEO
Comcast, parent company of Universal, will instate a new co-CEO, Michael “Mike” J. Cavanagh, in 2026.

The transition will take effect January 2026. The corporation announced the change on Sept. 29, 2025.
Mike Cavanagh will be co-CEO with existing CEO Brian L. Roberts, who will also continue to be the company’s chairman. Simultaneously, Cavanagh will join Comcast’s board of directors.

Cavanagh is currently president of Comcast and was previously the corporation’s CFO. He’s been with the company since 2015.
Mark Woodbury remains the CEO of Comcast’s theme parks division, Universal Destinations & Experiences.
“Comcast is a special company with exceptional businesses and an incredible team,” said Cavanagh. “It is an honor to work with Brian and the entire Comcast NBCUniversal leadership team during this exciting and transformative time in our industry.”
“Since joining Comcast a decade ago, Mike has proven himself to be a trusted and collaborative leader,” said Roberts. “He is the ideal person to help lead Comcast as we manage the pivot we are making to drive growth across the company. Mike and I work seamlessly together, and I am thrilled to be partnering with him as Co-CEO and with the rest of our talented management team, for years to come.”
Where theme parks are concerned, Universal has a full slate of new and upcoming projects. This year, Universal opened the Epic Universe theme park in Orlando, Fla., and the Horror Unleashed year-round haunt attraction in Las Vegas, Nev. In 2026, the company will open Universal Kids Resort near Dallas, Texas, the first-of-its-kind Universal park tailored to families with young children.
