On day one of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, 12+ minutes’ worth of new trailers and sneak peeks debuted for upcoming movies and series, including “Moana 2,” “Agatha All Along,” and the live-action “Lilo & Stitch.”

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event takes place Aug. 9-11, 2024 in Anaheim, Calif. As part of the weekend-long convention’s first day of programming, a presentation titled the Disney Entertainment Showcase revealed trailers and news fro upcoming Disney films, series, and theatrical productions.

‘Agatha All Along’ D23 trailer

In “Agatha All Along,” the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down the Road.

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical “Moana 2” reunites Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) and Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson) three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.

The film also features returning stars Rachel House (Moana’s Grandma, Tala), Temuera Morrison (Moana’s father, Chief Tui), and Nicole Scherzinger (Moana’s mother, Sina), as well as the voices of Hualālai Chung, David Fane, and Rose Matafeo as Moana’s new crew members Moni, Kele, and Loto, respectively. Awhimai Fraser voices mysterious new character Matangi; Gerald Ramsey plays Moana’s ancestor, Tautai Vasa; and Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda lends her voice to Moana’s adoring and adorable little sister, Simea.

‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ D23 trailer

Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, “Mufasa: The Lion King” enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka — the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny — their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.

While not specifically revealed during D23’s Entertainment Showcase, we might as well include the first look at “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.” The behind-the-scenes/teaser trailer mash-up coincidentally aired on Disney Channel at the same time as the D23 presentation.

Get a first-look at the newest Disney Channel series, “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place”! An in-production first-look was revealed today during the Disney Channel premiere of “Descendants: The Rise of Red.” The piece features behind-the-scenes moments with the series lead cast, including David Henrie and Janice LeAnn Brown, as well as executive producer and guest star Selena Gomez. Fans of the franchise can also spot a familiar face, David DeLuise, who is returning to guest star as the Russo family patriarch, Jerry Russo.

D23 trailer exclusives

In addition to the D23 trailers listed above, Disney shared additional trailers or clips in the room at D23, but didn’t post the videos online, for “Captain America: Brave New World,” “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” “Iron Heart,” “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” “Tron: Ares,” and “Zootopia 2.”

New Pixar films “Hoppers” and “Incredibles 3” were announced for the first time, but without any trailers.

Other previously announced projects were discussed, but no new trailers were revealed: “Andor” season 2, “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” “Daredevil: Born Again,” “Elio,” “Freakier Friday,” “Frozen 3,” and “Toy Story 5.”
