by Brittani Tuttle

Disney+ has released the trailer and the first look at photos for “Stargirl,” an offbeat coming-of-age story based on the young adult novel of the same name.

The film, which premieres on Disney+ on March 13, stars singer/songwriter Grace VanderWaal, Graham Verchere, Karan Brar, Maximiliano Hernandez, Darby Stanchfield, and Giancarlo Esposito.

In the film, Leo Borlock (Verchere) is your average student at Mica High School. He gets decent grades, is a member of the marching band, and has always been content flying under the radar. Then, everything changes when he meets Stargirl Caraway (VanderWaal), a confident and colorful new student who stands out in a crowd.

Her eccentricities and personality charm Leo and the student body, and she goes from being ignored and ridiculed to accepted and praised, then back again – sending Leo on a rollercoaster of emotions.

“Stargirl” is directed by Julia Hart from a screenplay by Kristin Hahn and Julia Hart & Jordan Horowitz, based on the novel by Jerry Spinelli.
