Disney reveals ‘real’ lightsaber for May the 4th, Galactic Starcruiser delayed

To celebrate May the 4th, AKA “Star Wars Day,” Disney Parks has shared a look at the “real” lightsaber shown to the media last month, as well as announced a delay for one of its newest experiences in a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

This new lightsaber was first shown only to media during a Disney Parks presentation hosted by Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products back in April. Created by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development, this is as close as fans have ever gotten to a real-life lightsaber from the “Star Wars” films, and we now know that it will play some part in the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience. This new kind of vacation, located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort, will take passengers via Launch Pod through hyperspace to their intergalactic destination, the Halcyon starcruiser.

For two nights, guests will find themselves immersed in the Star Wars universe, surrounded by a cast of characters both new and familiar — including the starcruiser’s charismatic captain, a plucky mechanic, and a galactic Twi’lek superstar who will be one of the performers inside the Crown of Corellia Dining Room.

Onboard the Halcyon, guests will also be able to train in the ways of the lightsaber, learn more about the inner workings of the starcruiser, and even take an excursion to the planet of Batuu. Disney calls it “storyliving,” where guests can “see, feel, and live Star Wars in a whole new way.”

More details will be shared as the 2022 opening date approaches. In the meantime, guests can visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios to see a model of the ship on display inside Walt Disney Presents for a limited time.
