Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, kicked off the IAAPA Virtual Education Conference with a keynote speech that looked back on the past year for the Disney Parks – as well as shared first looks at upcoming attractions and experiences.
A number of new construction photos were shared for many upcoming experiences, including Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure.
Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure and Avengers Campus
During the keynote speech, which was recording in an empty, closed Disneyland park, we got a look at construction on Avengers Campus, the new immersive land coming to Disney California Adventure.
We also got our first look at the ride vehicle for Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure, which is expected to open with the land. In the keynote video shared, we even got to see the vehicles cycling through the load area.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
In addition to our recent look at the omni-coaster vehicles for Cosmic Rewind, we also got to check out a video clip of the coaster in action, testing out maneuvers that will put riders right in front of the action.
We also got our first-ever look at the track for the coaster itself! While it looks a lot like Space Mountain with the lights on, we’re hopeful to see more theming added as construction progresses.
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
During the keynote, a look at a “mock-up” stateroom aboard the Halcyon, better known as Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, was shown. This new experiential hotel is scheduled to open next year at Walt Disney World.
“Harmonious” nighttime spectacular at Epcot
A quick construction time-lapse was shown for “Harmonious,” the new nighttime spectacular that will take over Epcot’s World Showcase Lagoon. Here you can see the framework for projection screens.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at Epcot
During the keynote, a more up-close look at the attraction signage for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at Epcot was shown. D’Amaro also confirmed that this attraction is “still on track” to open in 2021 in the France pavilion.
Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel at Disneyland Paris
An updated look at the progress on Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel at Disneyland Paris was also shared. This hotel, once complete, will celebrate 80 years of Marvel Comics history in a New York-inspired setting.
Zootopia-themed land at Shanghai Disneyland
A glimpse at the bones of what will be a Zootopia-themed land was also shared. The land went vertical earlier this year, and has been under construction since December 2019. As the first-ever land themed to Disney’s “Zootopia,” this new area will fully immerse guests in the animal-filled metropolis from the film. Guests will find new entertainment, merchandise, food and beverage offerings, and a new major attraction that combines Disney’s storytelling with state-of-the-art technologies to bring this fan-favorite film and its characters to life.
