Disney World will soon offer Digital Key hotel room entry through mobile app

You can already check into your Walt Disney World resort and order food through My Disney Experience, but soon you’ll also be able to use the smartphone app as a digital key to your hotel room.
Debuting first at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, the newest feature in the My Disney Experience smartphone app will optionally allow guests to enter their hotel room using a digital key on their mobile device. The digital key can also unlock the hotel entrance gate and common area doors requiring a key, such as include pools, fitness centers, elevators and club level lounges. If you’ve checked in online, you may use the digital key to bypass the front desk entirely.

Guests may opt in and activate the digital key feature on their check-in day through the app. To enter a room, tap the “Unlock Door” button and hold the phone against the door lock. Your mobile device must have Bluetooth enabled and an updated version of the My Disney Experience app.
MagicBands may also be used for entry into Wilderness Lodge hotel rooms, and guests may take advantage of either (or both) options to enter their room during their stay. MagicBands are still needed for all other uses including park entry, FastPass+ redemption, room charges, etc.
Disney has not yet announced when the new service will spread to additional resort hotels. For more information, or to book a Walt Disney World vacation, visit DisneyWorld.com or or recommended travel partner MEI-Travel.com, and watch these videos of the Wilderness Lodge:
