Dollywood’s Summer Celebration launches exclusive drone show

Dollywood’s annual Summer Celebration will shine even brighter this year as hundreds of drones take to the nighttime sky in spectacular performances each night from June 25 though July 31.

Dollywood Summer Celebration

Pigeon Forge, Tenn. is well-known as a family-friendly vacation destination, in part due to the Dollywood theme park’s attractions and special events. And there is even more to enjoy as Pigeon Forge celebrates its 60th anniversary, with new attractions, shops, and dining, plus the new Margaritaville campground and resort.

This year, Dollywood debuts “Sweet Summer Nights” during their Summer Celebration, with nearly 400 drones performing against a backdrop of fireworks and music.

The celebration starts with a DJ and costumed dancers leading a 30-minute dance party in the streets of the Wildwood Grove section of the park. As the party winds down, the drones go up, creating a multisensory spectacle in the sky above the Smoky Mountains while they dance and swerve along with a musically-choreographed fireworks show, for an unforgettable ending to each Summer Celebration day.

Dollywood Summer Celebration Sweet Summer Nights

The “Sweet Summer Nights’” synchronized drone performance was purpose-designed for Dollywood by the Intel Drone Light Shows company, who also created shows for some of the world’s biggest events, including the Coachella Music & Arts Festival in 2017, the 2018 XXIII Olympic Winter Games in South Korea, plus the 2017 Pepsi Zero Sugar Super Bowl LI and 2019 Pepsi Super Bowl LIII halftime shows.

Each drone, weighing less than a pound and measuring less than a foot in diameter, can display more than 4 billion color schemes as they combine to create a multitude of intricate shapes and fascinating animations, helping to tell the “Sweet Summer Nights” story in dazzling style.

Dollywood’s hours are extended during the Summer Celebration so that guests can enjoy the park’s world-class rides, attractions, and shows well into the night. The festival runs from June 25 – July 31, and is included in park admission.
