‘Domingo’ Marcello Hernández makes surprise appearance at Sabrina Carpenter concert
“Domingo” surprised fans at a Sabrina Carpenter concert, with Marcello Hernández appearing in person as the “Saturday Night Live” character.

Domingo ‘came all this way’ to Sabrina Carpenter concert
It’s not every day an arena full of people are screaming for a fictional character. Such is the world of themed entertainment.
Breaking out from his television sketch and entering the real world, Domingo — a character portrayed by Marcello Hernández on “Saturday Night Live” — made a surprise appearance at a Sabrina Carpenter concert on Nov. 17, 2024. Carpenter was in Inglewood, Calif. for the penultimate night of her “Short n’ Sweet” tour’s U.S. dates.
Hernández appeared in character and in costume, wearing Domingo’s signature navy blazer, goatee, and wavy hair.
“My name is Domingo,” Hernández spoke into a mic, to uproarious screams from the crowd as Sabrina Carpenter addressed him from the stage.
“I’m so flustered,” Carpenter (scripted) responded. “Ay, dios mío. Where are you from?”
“I’m from Miami, baby.”
After some banter (posted to YouTube by Carolyn Burt) — during which Domingo was shown on the arena’s large screen with a display reading “under arrest for being too hot” — the bit concluded with Carpenter saying, “You sure are gorgeous. I’m getting so flustered and overwhelmed. Is there anything you want to say before I arrest you, Domingo?”
“Came all this way, had to explain, d-i-rect from Domingo.”
The legend of Domingo
Those unassuming lyrics have become Internet legend since Domingo’s debut during the Oct. 12, 2024 episode of “Saturday Night Live,” hosted by Ariana Grande. So just who is Domingo? During a sketch that takes place at a wedding reception, a group of bridesmaids (Heidi Gardner, Grande, Ego Nwodim, and Sarah Sherman) sing a parody of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” song with lyrics about Kelsey’s (Chloe Fineman) bachelorette party. Groom Matthew (Andrew Dismukes) quickly discerns Kelsey had a bit of a fling during the trip with a fellow named Domingo (Marcello Hernández), who then shows up at the reception.
The sketch was penned by “SNL” writers Jimmy Fowlie, Sudi Green, Allie Levitan, and Ceara O’Sullivan, as shared by Sherman on “The Tonight Show.”
In just over a month, the “Bridesmaid Speech” sketch has accrued 11 million views on the official “SNL” YouTube channel, 45 million on the show’s Instagram account, and 123 million on its TikTok profile. On TikTok, Domingo’s debut is the account’s most popular video ever, with over twice as many plays as the runner-up (a video from early November of Maya Rudolph as Vice President Kamala Harris lip-syncing a meme with Harris herself).
Hernández’s surprise appearance at the Sabrina Carpenter concert in California came just 24 hours after reprising his role as Domingo in a follow-up sketch on “SNL” in New York. This time, Charli XCX joined Kelsey’s friends at her baby shower to sing a parody of “Hot to Go,” with Domingo’s name substituted in the chorus (and the character being revealed as the father of one of Kelsey’s twin babies).
“D-O-M-I-N-G-O, Kelsey’s texting Domingo!”
Sabrina, Marcello, and ‘Saturday Night Live’
Earlier this year (pre-Domingo), Sabrina Carpenter and Marcello Hernández were individually named Variety’s 2024 Power of Young Hollywood honorees, as was Sadie Sink.
Carpenter was the musical guest on the May 18, 2024 episode of “Saturday Night Live,” but she and Hernández didn’t share any screen time. During that appearance, Carpenter performed her songs “Feather,” “Nonsense,” and a non-parody version of “Espresso.” Elsewhere in the episode, she acted in a prerecorded “Scooby-Doo” sketch as Daphne alongside host Jake Gyllenhaal and “SNL” cast members Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Sarah Sherman, and Kenan Thompson.
Will we ever see Domingo and Sabrina Carpenter interact together on “SNL”? Time will tell. “SNL” is currently in its milestone 50th season, live from New York as always from 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Tickets to be in the audience are free, but require some skill. Learn how to get them from our firsthand report, or read our observations from being inside Studio 8H during the show.
Airing on NBC, “SNL” characters are fair game for use in Universal theme parks. David S. Pumpkins appeared as a walk-around character during Halloween Horror Nights 2023 in both Orlando, Fla. and Hollywood, Calif.
