Emperor dive coaster now open at SeaWorld San Diego

Emperor has been added to SeaWorld San Diego’s thrill rides, and is the tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster in California. It is also the only floorless dive coaster in the state. Named after the world’s largest penguin, the new coaster will mimic the species’ underwater diving ability. Climbing to 153 feet in the air, riders will be suspended, feet dangling on a 45-degree angle at the crown of the ride before plunging down a 143-foot face-down vertical drop, accelerating to more than 60 miles per hour.

Riders will also experience inversions, a barrel roll, an Immelmann loop, a hammerhead turn and flat spin as they travel along the nearly 2,500 feet of track. Each of the floorless coaster cars can hold 18 riders in three, six-person rows — the first seating configuration of this kind in North America.
