French fry bumper cars coming to Kennywood
The school picnic to Kennywood was a rite of passage for those of us who grew up in Pittsburgh, and no visit to our local amusement park was complete without Potato Patch fries. Next year, families can get a new thrill when Kennywood transforms its Gran Prix attraction by adding French fry bumper cars.

I love Kennywood’s Potato Patch fries, and Pittsburghers would slather them with a cheezy sauce or brown gravy (my go-to was always salt & vinegar on the fresh-cut potatoes).

I was also a huge fan of the Gran Prix bumper cars and mastered throwing my weight into the impact of the crash to throw my friends off course. Naturally, I taught my daughters this important bumper car skill. All that being said, I admit this was a pairing I never saw coming.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the bumper cars and Potato Patch, Kennywood’s combining them with French fry bumper cars.
The bumper cars, located in the front of the park, will undergo a full makeover with 20 new cars modeled after the park’s signature snack. Each car will be fitted with fries, oozing cheese sauce, and an oversized fork, completing an appetizing look for the most drool-worthy attraction.
Kennywood Assistant General Manager, Rick Spicuzza says, “The all-new Potato Patch themed bumper cars continue the massive multi-year park enhancement project, keeping Kennywood fun and unique for future generations to enjoy.”

The addition of the French fry bumper cars to the Gran Prix will be finished by the start of Kennywood’s 2024 season. Kennywood Park is currently open on weekends for its annual Holiday Lights event, and then every day from Dec. 26, 2023, through Jan. 1, 2024.

Holiday Lights features more than 2 million lights throughout the park, the tallest Christmas tree in Pennsylvania, and more than 20 rides for families to enjoy. Kennywood’s currently offering a “Black Friday” deal – everyone who purchases a 2024 season pass (at $40 off) can get unlimited access to the remaining days of 2023 Holiday Lights.
