According to new signage on FuelRod kiosks at Walt Disney World Resort, free charger swaps will be discontinued this winter.

On Nov. 1, swapping chargers will now cost $3 per swap. Originally, the FuelRod chargers were a one-time purchase fee of $30, and guests could swap them out for new, fully charged batteries as many times as they liked.

The initial purchase of a FuelRod kit includes a fully-charged battery and a charger cord with adapters for iPhone and Android devices. With this kit, however, it is still possible for guests to charge their batteries at home before heading to the parks.

This new fee follows Universal Orlando installing the same fee at their FuelRod kiosks, which was implemented this past March. However, if you download the FuelRod app, you can get free five swaps to help stave off $15 in fees.

What do you think of this new charge? Will this make you stop using your FuelRod? Let us know in the comments below.

This is a bait and switch. When we bought these, the understanding was that swapping would not be charged.

Fully agree! Not happy at all. I would have spent my money on one that could recharge multiple times instead if I knew this was coming.

Well this is unfortunate. And after the five free swaps (per email address maybe?), it won’t be worth it any more. Then, I’ll just carry my larger, heavier chargers. So it might not be economical for new purchases even if you buy at an airport for $20 instead of in park.
