Fun Spot holds groundbreaking for their ‘huge’ expansion

Fun Spot Thrill Park off International Drive recently held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of its 10-acre expansion of their park and re-branding it as Fun Spot America. Almost 500 people were in attendance at the ceremony.

The America-themed ceremony included a blessing from First Baptist Church of Orlando’s Pastor Uth and words of appreciation from both John Arie, Sr. and John Arie, Jr. The ceremony also included a traditional groundbreaking with members of the project’s team and a post-ceremony celebration in the main park with photographs detailing the expansion.

“This new 10-acre expansion is going to change everything. It’s our baby,” said John Arie, Sr., Fun Spot C.E.O. and owner, during the ceremony. Besides fulfilling a dream of Arie’s to expand, the project will also create jobs for the construction industry and add 100 new employees to Fun Spot’s existing 120 employee base in Orlando.

H. J. High Construction, the project’s design-build contractor, has started work on the project’s site preparation. Phase 1 of the expansion will add two new rollercoasters, one wood and one steel, an iconic 250-foot tall SkyCoaster which will be the second largest in the world and visible for miles, dozens of amusements rides, and a new multi-level go-kart track. The first phase of the project is scheduled to be complete in the spring of 2013.
