Calling all soccer fans and corporate team-building managers – here is the latest and greatest in indoor sporting facilities, XL Sports World, opening in Lake Nona on Oct. 5.
By Susan & Simon Veness
Both an attraction in its own right and a major community-based soccer center, XL Sports World has had a Central Florida location in Winter Park since 2011—one of nine sporting complexes nationwide—but is now branching out with a brand new, state-of-the-art facility in the heart of southeast Orlando.
The impressive 50,000 square foot all-indoor facility is next door to Valencia College’s Lake Nona campus and handy for the Central Florida Greeneway, and promises to take the XL style to a new dimension of user-friendly activities for adults and children alike.
The new center will incorporate:
- 2 indoor 5G soccer fields
- 2 futsal/volleyball courts
- Conference/birthday rooms
- Locker room facilities
- Themed lounge bar
- 20 large-screen TVs for watch parties
It will feature organized leagues for all ages from ages three and up, including co-ed, recreational and family play, and all in fully air-conditioned comfort, to take into account the heat (and rain) of Florida.
Unique to both the Orlando locations will be the XL Academy, led by former English premier League star Alan Smith, and supported by former Orlando City fan favorite Luke Boden. Smith played for Leeds, Manchester United and England, and will be a hugely motivational presence at the School, while Boden will be well known to all local soccer fans.
Classrooms will also have cutting-edge technology to really transform the educational experience both on and off the fields.
The XL Academy mission statement is:
To make a hugely positive impact in our kids’ lives with the goal of finding the next American international player; develop life skills in teamwork, motivation, endurance, fitness, and mental wellness; translate all activities to any corporate or sports environment, college, university or professional club at any level.
