Harry Potter Platform 9 3/4 trolley set coming to UK train stations

Harry Potter brought one of the franchise’s most iconic scenes to life when he ran through the wall of Platform 9 ¾ and started his wizarding adventures. This October, Muggles can recreate that moment as Harry’s luggage trolley tours U.K. train stations.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the U.K. cinematic debut of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” four train stations — one each in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland — will delight visitors with the chance to “run through” the magical wall with Harry’s trolley.

The prop, loaded with suitcases and the cage for Harry’s owl, Hedwig, has been a feature at London’s Kings Cross, where more than two million Potter fans annually have played out the scene.

The trolley is designed to looks like it’s halfway through the wall, straddling the Muggle world and the wizarding world’s train station, where the Hogwarts Express takes students on a thrilling journey to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The prop will be on tour from Oct. 16-31, reaching a wider range of fans. Tour stops and dates are:

  • Edinburgh Waverley: Oct. 16-18
  • Birmingham New Street: Oct. 23-25
  • Cardiff Central: Oct. 26-28
  • Belfast Lanyon Place: Oct. 29-31

Stuart Kirkwood, group property director at Network Rail, shared his excitement at being part of the tour. “Edinburgh Waverly and Birmingham New Street are Network Rail-managed stations, and it’s been great to take this fan favorite to locations outside of London to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film.

“The Platform 9 ¾ trolley in King’s Cross station is a fantastic attraction that boasts huge queues of ‘Harry Potter’ fans daily. We are extremely pleased to add this touch of magic to these stations.”

On Nov. 16, Wizarding World: The Official Home of Harry Potter will launch the official 20th anniversary celebration, “20 Years of Movie Magic,” celebrating 20 iconic moments in the eight-movie series based on J.K. Rowling’s books about the boy wizard.

Fans can also visit magical properties at Universal Orlando Resort with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade in Universal’s Islands of Adventure and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley in Universal Studios Florida; and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Japan, and Universal Beijing Resort, which has just announced a grand opening date of Sept. 20, 2021.

    1. There is no set time, it will just be set up at the Cardiff Central Station from Oct 26-28 and you can visit it whenever you’d like, as long as the station’s foyer is open.
