Directly across the street from Disneyland sits the Howard Johnson Anaheim Hotel. And now, they’ve added a bit of Disneyland history into one of their suites. Opening on August 12, 2022, the House of the Retro Future suite gives throwback vibes with modern amenities. This new addition to Howard Johnson Anaheim is a loving tribute to former Disneyland attraction, the Monsanto House of the Future.
The design and decor in the new suite implies a mid-century modern design sensibility that was found in Tomorrowland’s Monsanto House of the Future from 1957-1967. It mixes a functional style with cutting-edge technology. Original artwork by artist Shag adorns the wall across from a seemingly 1960’s era tube TV with round framing and vibrant color schemes.
Modern conveniences include Amazon Alexa devices powered by Volara, with voice-activated lighting and thermostat controls by Inncom/Honeywell. Some of the more retro touches include seating by Modernica and Herman Miller, decorative panels by Modular Arts, and appropriate era lighting by Restoration Hardware. The suite even includes a record player with period-appropriate vinyl records to choose from for your listening pleasure.
This 700 square foot suite is one of the largest suites at Howard Johnson Anaheim. Separate from the living and dining room is the bedroom housing two queen beds to sleep four comfortably. The suite also features two shower options; one walk-in and another with a standard bathtub.
The House of the Retro Future Suite is now available to book for future stays. You may book the one-of-a-kind suite for two-night stays at the cost of $1,957, a nod to the 1957 opening of Disneyland’s House of the Future. The resort is just an eight minute walk from Disneyland and features Castaway Cove – A Watery Pirate Playground. Experience yesterday’s tomorrow, today by booking a stay in the House of the Retro Future.
