Kennywood’s Fall Fantasy Parades return for 2021

Pittsburgh’s Kennywood amusement park has re-launched their iconic Fall Fantasy Parades on select dates through Aug. 29. This event is a staple of the Pittsburgh community and a harbinger of the upcoming school year. I remember marching with my own high school band through the historic park back in the mid-’80’s.

Started in 1950, this will be the 71st year of Kennywood’s Fall Fantasy Parades. The parades have grown over the years with 8-12 marching bands in each spectacle. During the entire Fall Fantasy run, more than 125 marching bands from high schools and colleges throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio will appear.

“We are excited to welcome back Fall Fantasy in 2021,” says Mark Pauls, general manager. “The parades serve as the traditional way to enjoy summer before the school year begins; all while our region’s talented young people take center stage in our beautiful park.”

Kennywood is helping families make up for missed celebrations with the Fall Fantasy theme “Let’s Celebrate!” floats, designed in-house by Kennywood’s art department, which will depict holidays from Groundhog Day to Christmas mixed in with each night’s performing bands. Kennywood’s Fall Fantasy Parades begin at 6 p.m. on select evenings until Aug. 29.
