We tried the Krabby Patty Kollab Burger at Wendy’s
We tried everything on Wendy’s new Krabby Patty Kollab menu to celebrate 25 years of “SpongeBob SquarePants.”

“You know what’s funnier than 24? 25!” Wendy’s is celebrating 25 years of “SpongeBob SquarePants” with a special, limited-time menu. Krusty Krab fans can finally taste the mythical glory of Krabby Patties at Wendy’s as the restaurant launches the Krabby Patty Kollab Burger and the Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty.
But does the “real thing” taste as good as SpongeBob and all the residents of Bikini Bottom say it is? Wendy’s invited us out to try out the new menu!

Review of Wendy’s Krabby Patty
The Krabby Patty Kollab Burger is … fine. If you like Wendy’s burgers, you’ll like this. From what we could tell, the “top-secret Krabby Kollab sauce” is pretty much the only thing different that distinguishes a Krabby Patty Kollab Burger from a regular Wendy’s burger. The sauce tasted like a typical burger sauce; someone in our group compared it to the sauce served at Shake Shack. For such an iconic fictional food as a Krabby Patty, our group felt this should’ve been more of a knock-out than it seems to be. Ours also looked very different from the advertisement.
The Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty is also underwhelming. We’re not sure if they’re all like this at every location, but ours had all of its syrup sitting in a thick layer at the bottom of the cup, with the vanilla soft serve on top of that. Like the Krabby Patty, the special Frosty is fine if you already like Wendy’s Frosties, but isn’t something we’d go out of our way to eat, and is a bit underwhelming for all the SpongeBob fanfare — which there is, from the moment you open the Wendy’s app, quite a lot of.
Our meal didn’t come with special SpongeBob packaging, but hopefully this was just a supply issue. We visited on the first day of the menu’s launch, after all.
Additionally, the first Wendy’s restaurant we visited had already run out of the Krabby Kollab sauce by 1 p.m. With this being a popular, viral, limited-time menu, it might be a good idea to call ahead to make sure your local Wendy’s supplies are in stock.
If you’re mobile-ordering in the Wendy’s app, you can customize your Krabby Patty if you don’t want any of the toppings. The only thing you can’t remove is the burger patty, which also means you can’t substitute it with a chicken patty (in the app, at least).
Pro tip
Though not advertised on the Wendy’s menu (nor visible as a selection in the app), patrons can order a side of the secret Krabby Patty sauce for $0.54. If you don’t eat burgers or would prefer a different menu item, but still want to imagine what a Krabby Patty might taste like, just order the sauce with your other food.
Where to find Wendy’s Krabby Patties
Wendy’s stated in a press release that Krabby Patties and the new Frosty are available at “participating Wendy’s” throughout the U.S., Canada, and Guam. The official KrabbyPattyKollab.com website only lists 12 cities for some reason, but the menu is available elsewhere. (Two reporters on our staff found them in separate cities — Orlando, Fla. and Charlotte, N.C. — both of which aren’t on that website’s list.)
Unfortunately, the Wendy’s locator tool doesn’t have a filter to find locations specifically selling the Krabby Patty Kollab. That being said, the Wendy’s app will display the menu if it’s available at your local Wendy’s, or you can always call your local store to ask.

“SpongeBob SquarePants” debuted on Nickelodeon in July 1999 and is still going strong, amassing a total of over 300 episodes, four movies, and two spin-off series (“Kamp Koral” and “The Patrick Star Show”). Over the years, the series has inspired themed attractions in the real world, such as a new trackless ride in Las Vegas, the defunct SpongeBob 3D at former Paramount Parks, and SpongeBob StorePants at Universal Studios Florida, among others.

I’m like you and was underwhelmed by the burger, it was tasty but nothing special. My group went the 1st night of the promotion in Orange County CA and also didn’t get special packaging for the combined meal which was disappointing.
