Look inside the new limited-time “Disney Store” concept in Pittsburgh
Disney fans in Pennsylvania will soon have a new place to shop for Parks merchandise, character collections, and exclusive apparel as Disney Store prepares to open a new limited-time retail location at Ross Park Mall near Pittsburgh.
Disney Store Limited Time will officially debut Saturday, May 23, at Ross Park Mall, with a grand opening ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. ET. The temporary location is the first in a new collaboration between Disney and Go! Retail Group. The new venture is designed to bring Disney Store experiences back to malls.
First impressions
According to Disney, the limited-time Pittsburgh store features immersive design elements, surprise moments for guests, and merchandise inspired by Disney Parks, films, franchises, and characters. Shoppers can also expect products exclusive to Disney Store locations.
I am a former Disney Store cast member, circa early 2000s, and I have some big thoughts after viewing the photos sent to us at Attractions Magazine. It feels nostalgic and wonderful to see the magic key lock that used to be part of a morning celebration opening the store each day. It also hits me in my feels to see merchandise walls organized by character family with corresponding motif signage above each bay.

Seeing a mini-version of the iconic Disney Store ‘plush mountain’ made me smile too, but it is barely a whisper of the grandeur that was the original, full-size tiered display of plush dolls in the center of nearly every Disney Store during the golden age.

Merchandise and future plans
For the Pittsburgh opening, Disney will offer a special Pittsburgh-inspired Disney tee created specifically for local fans. A second Disney Store Limited Time location is planned to open this fall at Garden State Plaza in New Jersey. Both stores may remain open through the holiday season.
Disney Store mall presence continues evolving
While Disney closed many traditional mall-based Disney Store locations in recent years, the company has continued experimenting with new retail concepts, pop-ups, and smaller-format experiences tied to major shopping destinations and Disney Parks merchandise demand.
These new limited-time locations appear positioned as a hybrid between the remnants of the classic Disney Store experience and a seasonal fandom-focused retail activation. Browse a few more photos in the gallery below.
Disney says guests visiting the Ross Park Mall location can expect merchandise from across Disney’s brands and stories, along with themed environments designed to celebrate Disney fandom in person. The pictures we received do show instances of those claims, though not as fully fleshed out as Disney Store fans may have hoped for.

What fans can expect at Disney Store Limited Time
For longtime Disney Store fans, the return of a physical mall shopping experience may feel a little special as Disney continues expanding how fans interact with the brand beyond the parks. Hopefully, the actual in-person experience delivers on that magical feeling so many of us came to expect over Disney Store’s decades.
The posted hours for the Pittsburgh location are currently posted as:
- Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Monday – Thursday 10 a.m to 8 p.m.
- Friday – Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Ross Park Mall Disney Store Limited Time is located at 1000 Ross Park Mall Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. For Pittsburgh-area Disney fans, Saturday’s opening may be the closest thing to returning to Disney Store’s past.
