London Eye to host queer history tour onboard the ‘Pride Pod’

Tour London’s Queer History from the Sky

As part of the half-hour tour, Cox will share stories about LGBTQIA+ history and point out local landmarks, including:

• Trafalgar Square – The site of the first UK Pride parade in 1972
• Islington Town Hall – The location of one of the first same-sex marriages in 2014
• Heaven – One of Europe’s largest queer nightclubs

“I have been working as a tour guide for almost 10 years, but this is the first time I’ve done one this high up!” Cox said. “I can’t wait to get up there to share some amazing stories and facts with guests! Many people aren’t aware of the rich queer history that the city has, and in fact, you could even say London was born a queer city, as the Romans who founded London, or Londinium as it was known then, were all for same-sex relationships!”

The London Eye will donate £5 of every Pride Pod ticket to Mosaic LGBT+ Young Persons’ Trust. Mosaic supports LGBT+ youth with activities, programs, and services.

“We are proud to be celebrating Pride month at the London Eye,” said Imran Tauqir, general manager of the London Eye. “The team [is] excited to learn about the city’s history from Mark and his unique tour of the London skyline. Tauqir noted the London Eye is a popular spot for queer marriage proposals. The Pride Pod debuts just before the London Pride Parade on July 1, 2023, and Trans Pride on July 8, 2023.
