Starting April 4, 2020, Luna Park in Coney Island will come to life with birthday-themed offerings. Just in time for the celebration, the park will unveil its newly-added rides as part of the Luna Park expansion project: Big WaveZ, Ropes Course Adventure Zone, The Super Flume Ride, The Junior Coaster, and a recreational public space.

Big WaveZ is an interactive water ride that will transport guests into the lair of the Roman god Neptune. Sensors on the ride vehicle will allow guests to interact with Neptune as well as influence the movement of the ride. A touch screen platform will increase interactivity, allowing those waiting in line to impact riders’ fates.

In the Ropes Course Adventure Zone, climbers can experience grand views of the boardwalk and ocean along the course’s four levels. The area will be circus-themed and feature obstacles, ropes courses, and zip lines for all ages and skill levels. It will be located next to the Thunderbolt coaster.

The Super Flume Ride will give guests a semi-circle panoramic view of the shoreline before plunging down at a speed of over 30 miles per hour leading into the big splashdown. The attraction will operate with 12 flume boats that can seat up to six guests. This attraction will be entwined with The Junior Coaster, creating a unique experience for guests.

The Junior Coaster, a family thrill ride, will take riders on a wild coaster experience as it bends and curves through the path of The Super Flume Ride.

In addition to the new rides, Luna Park will open a public space called Stillwell Avenue. Located between the boardwalk and Surf Avenue, this area will invite the community and guests to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of Coney Island. The public space will feature shaded seating, greenery, art installations, photo-ops, and more.

“Each season, our goal is to deliver the best thrills and experiences to our local community as well as the tourists that visit us each year,” said Alessandro Zamperla, president of Central Amusement International. “With the celebration of our 10th season and the addition of these new rides and spaces, we are excited to grow, provide quality entertainment, and bring the finest in amusement park innovations to New York City.”
