“Momentous” nighttime show will light up the sky over Hong Kong Disneyland as images on The Castle of Magical Dreams celebrate life’s magical moments.
The projection mapping show, a first for Hong Kong Disneyland, will act as a finale to the Castle’s trilogy, which began with the Castle’s opening in 2022, followed by the stage show, “Follow Your Dreams” in 2021.
Disney characters’ stories play out as a heartwarming journey of life in “Momentous,” through projection mapping, water projections, theatrical lighting, lasers, choreographed water fountains, flames, pyrotechnics, and fireworks, all set to classic Disney music set in new arrangements.
“More than five years in the making by our world-class talents from Hong Kong, United States, and around the world, the long-awaited nighttime spectacular will arrive in mid-June,” said Alex Clifton, executive director, entertainment and costuming of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. “‘Momentous’ is a breathtaking, never-before-seen production that explores hope and inspiration, love and laughter, hardship and perseverance, reflection and celebration.
“This magical experience will take guests on an odyssey of life’s cherished moments, as told through the lens of Disney stories, music, and multimedia effects. We can’t wait for guests to travel on this journey with us and be reminded of how precious time is.”
“Momentous” celebrates the stages of life in six chapters
Each chapter is told through images of approximately 150 Disney characters from nearly 40 Disney and Pixar films.
Chapter 1 – “Time Begins” shows Disney and Pixar characters’ tender moments of new beginnings through the joyful celebration of infants, including Tarzan and Kala from the movie “Tarzan,” Dumbo from “Dumbo,” and Riley from “Inside Out.”
Chapter 2 – “Time of Your Life” transitions babies into children, celebrating the carefree stages of life through characters such as Wendy from “Peter Pan,” Anna and Elsa from “Frozen,” and Simba from “The Lion King.”
Chapter 3 – “Time for Change” marks the move from childhood into young adulthood as characters such as Moana from the movie “Moana,” Judy Hopps from “Zootopia,” and Hercules from “Hercules” leave behind the familiar and discover who they were meant to be.
Chapter 4 – “Time Stands Still” delves into the heartwarming stories and heart wrenching lows of young love, as seen through the eyes of Jasmine and Aladdin from “Aladdin,” Eric and Ariel from “The Little Mermaid,” and Rapunzel from “Tangled.”
Chapter 5 – “Test of Time” is a reminder that life is filled with challenges and obstacles. Disney villains and heroes, including Dr. Facilier and James from “The Princess and the Frog,” Scar from “The Lion King,” and the Evil Queen and Snow White from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” clash in this fight to overcome the temptations of evil and make dreams come true.
Chapter 6 – “Time to Remember” is an emotional chapter filled with characters who inspire others. It is an invitation to guests to reflect on the mentors and guides in their own lives, evoking a feeling of gratitude. Characters portrayed in this stirring episode include Miguel and Hector from “Coco,” and Russel and Carl from “Up.”
Finale – As the characters are empowered to live a life filled with adventure, love, and friendship, that sentiment is passed on to guests as the show concludes.
