“Masterpieces from Stage & Screen” is this year’s theme for Bok Tower Gardens’ ninth annual Sunset & Symphony concert at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6. The annual event draws thousands of picnickers who enjoy a musical evening as the sun sets atop Iron Mountain.
From Harry Potter to Sound of Music, Chicago, State Fair, Fiddler on the Roof and the Rocky Horror Picture Show, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra with guest soprano Susana Diaz, will perform movie themes and show tunes as well as pops, light classics and patriotic favorites. Carillonneur William De Turk will perform the film music of Nino Rota who studied and composed original music for the Singing Tower. The tribute to the composer includes La Dolce Vita, “The Sweet Life,” and the Love Themes from Romeo & Juliet and The Godfather.
Children’s activities include the Instrument Petting Zoo at 4:30 p.m. Located on the Garden Activities Center lawn, children can try their hands at a variety of instruments with the help of Orlando Philharmonic musicians. Conductor Dirk Meyer will invite children to help direct the Orlando Philharmonic’s presentation of Harry’s Wondrous World.
The popular picnic contest will award prizes for Most Elegant, Most Original and Best Fall. Winners will be announced during intermission.
