Illumination has released the official trailer for “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” the latest film in the Minions animated franchise.
This new film tells the untold story of one 12-year-old’s dream to become the world’s greatest supervillain. In the 1970s, Gru (Steve Carell) is growing up in the suburbs. A fanboy of a supervillain supergroup known as the Vicious 6, Gru comes up with a plan to become evil enough to join them.
Lucky for him, he has his own backup in the form of the Minions. Together, Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and Otto — a new Minion with braces and a need to please — use their skills as they build Gru’s first lair, experiment with their first weapons, and pull off their first missions.
When the Vicious 6 kick out their leader, Wild Knuckles (Alan Arkin), Gru interviews to become their newest member. After it doesn’t go well, the villain wannabe finds himself as the mortal enemy of the apex of evil. On the run, Gru will turn to Wild Knuckles himself and discover that even bad guys need a little help from their friends.
“Minions: The Rise of Gru” features a new voice cast including Taraji P. Henson as Belle Bottom, Jean-Claude Van Damme as Jean Clawed, Lucy Lawless as Nunchuck, Dolph Lundgren as Svengeance, and Danny Trejo as Stronghold. The film also features Russell Brand as Dr. Nefario, Michelle Yeoh as Master Chow, and Julie Andrews as Gru’s mom.
