Just in time for Penguin Awareness Day on Jan. 20, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is celebrating fluffy new additions to Penguin Point with special offers and experiences for guests.
Visitors to the park can learn more about African penguins and get a behind-the-scenes introduction to member’s of the park’s colony during a Penguin Insider Tour. On Jan. 19 and 20, guests will also receive 10 percent off of penguin merchandise in honor of the new arrivals.
Three new chicks joined the colony at Penguin Point on Dec. 28, 30 and Jan. 10, respectively. The birds are under the care of adult penguin pairs, in addition to check-ups from Busch Gardens’ veterinarians and keepers. Guests can see their care in action when visiting the penguin habitat.
In addition to the three newest chicks, the group of four hatchlings from this past fall are growing fast as the park experiences its most successful hatchling season in history. The older chicks can be found swimming and splashing around Penguin Point.
As a treat for guests for Penguin Awareness Day, visitors are invited to the Animal Care Center to meet one of these chicks on Jan. 19-20. Visit times will be posted each day at the Animal Care Center, where guests can learn more about the care that the penguins receive, and how to help save and protect these animals in the wild.
Penguin Awareness Day is observed on Jan. 20 each year to help bring awareness to the threats that penguins experience around the world, including environmental issues like habitat loss and climate change.
