During D23 Expo 2019, it was announced that Target locations across the country would be getting new Disney store ‘shop-in-shop’ experiences. As of Oct. 4, 2019, 25 have opened to shoppers.
We visited the Super Target located at 10900 Lakeline Mall Dr. in Austin, Texas, which was one of the initial 25 stores to get the new Disney store shop-in-shop.
At this Target, the Disney store area is located behind the children’s books section and to the right of children’s clothing. It features a central screen display stylized like a castle that offers cute games like “spot the difference” and trailers for upcoming films, plus an adjacent seating area featuring Target’s canine mascot, Bullseye.
Unfortunately for the kids hanging out in this area, the screen located at their eye-level is not a touch screen, so the games are not fully interactive.
The seating area is surrounded by multiple displays that include categories like Star Wars, Frozen 2, Disney Princess, Animator’s Collection, Toy Story 4, Disney Junior, home goods and more.
There are even sections marked as “Only at Target” items, which is definitely enticing for Disney fans looking for that perfect gift or addition to their home that they can’t get anywhere else.
Overhead is a giant Mickey head icon, along with fun and whimsical art featuring Rey and BB-8, Spider-Man and Iron Man, Buzz Lightyear and Woody, Simba and Nala, Stitch, and Elsa and Olaf.
As far as products go, you can find every Disney thing your child could possibly want in this new shop-in-shop, from clothes to costumes, to dolls, toys, playsets and more.
For adults, there isn’t much to come by beyond the home goods and a few holiday-related items.
All in all, this new in-store offering features exactly what you’d expect from visiting a Disney store, just watered down to fit in the space assigned. Kids will run straight there the next time you visit Target, and parents will no doubt find something for the kids (or kids at heart!) they’re shopping for.
This new shop-in-shop will debut in 40 additional Target stores by October 2020. A new Target store is set to open at Flamingo Crossings Town Center at the western entrance of Walt Disney World Resort in 2021, which will include this new Disney store offering.
