In honor of the 90th anniversary of Mickey Mouse, Disney is celebrating the milestone with a pop-up installation that gives a sneak peek of “Mickey: The True Original Exhibition,” set to open this November in New York City.
This installation is now on public display at Lupetti Pizzeria in Los Angeles, Calif. now through Oct. 23, when it will move to NYC to be displayed from November 2018 – February 2019. “Mickey: The True Original Exhibition” will be a 16,000-square-foot immersive, Instagram-worthy art experience inspired by Mickey and his impact on pop culture and art.
In collaboration with Disney, artist Shinique Smith has revealed one of her iconic fabric bale works called “Bale Variant No. 0026 (Ode to Mickey Mouse, My First Love).”
This work consists of various fabrics and Mickey plushes through the years, all bundled into a large bale. This sculpture tells the story of the cherished Mickey-themed objects and what they have meant to everyone over the years.
