125-foot-tall Radio City Rockettes dance on Las Vegas’ Exosphere

The Radio City Rockettes will venture beyond New York this holiday season in a new virtual performance on the Exosphere, Las Vegas’ LED dome.

Across 580,000 square feet of LED panels — the planet’s largest LED screen — and stretching 360 degrees around the Exosphere, the Radio City Rockettes appear to be 125 feet tall as they dance and kick.

Filmmakers shot the footage in New York and digital artists rendered the finished presentation to seem as if the Exosphere is transparent. Viewers can see the backs of the Rockettes as they dance around the Exosphere, seemingly defying the physics of the solid paneling.

“We are all about precision,” said Danelle Morgan, a Radio City Rockette and the group’s dance captain and assistant choreographer. “But with Sphere, we really need to make sure that every single thing — from the tip of our finger to the height of our signature eye-high kicks — is completely in sync because of the scale of the Exosphere.”

Nine Decades of Dancing

The Exosphere and Radio City Music Hall are both operated under the corporate umbrella of Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp.

As such, the Rockettes dancing on the Exosphere represents a partnership between two unique attractions, “one that has been bringing joy to a million fans in New York City annually for 90 years, and one that began enchanting audiences worldwide earlier this year,” said Jessica Tuttle, SVP of productions at Madison Square Garden Entertainment.

The Exosphere illuminated for the first time in July 2023. The Rockettes performed their first Radio City Christmas show in 1933.

Plan Your Rockettes Visit in Vegas or NYC

Las Vegas visitors can now see the Radio City Rockettes on the Exosphere daily. The Rockettes’ virtual residency will continue “throughout the holiday season.” Its press release did not indicate a specific ending date.

The Exosphere’s visuals can be seen from its surrounding area and do not require admission to Sphere’s indoor experiences or concerts.
