Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway AR game brings Disney Parks home

A new augmented reality (AR) game on the DisneyNow mobile app is bringing a bit of Disney magic home to fans — “Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Adventure Kit.”

Based on the attraction that opened this past March at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World, the Runaway Railway Adventure Kit allows players to bring the world of the attraction to life as they drive Mickey, Minnie, or Goofy around their real-world settings.

Once players choose who’s driving, they can pick between three worlds to cruise around in: Runnamuck Park, Big City Snarl, and Carnival Chaos. If there isn’t a good setting for the AR to work properly, players can also choose to skip AR for the experience.

The player’s chosen vehicle is piloted by an on-screen joystick or buttons, and they’re free to move around the map. The map is also customizable, thanks to unlockable items that can be placed in the game world after earning money via a racing minigame. As an added bonus, the game also features music from the attraction!

This game is free-to-play in the DisneyNow app, and doesn’t require a subscription. There are many other Disney-themed games on the app, as well. The joystick controls do have a bit of a learning curve, so don’t be afraid to run over a few cardboard trees as you get the hang of it — we certainly did!
