After being delayed by COVID-19, Sea Life Aquarium and Legoland Discovery Center will open in spring 2021 at the American Dream retail and entertainment complex in the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, N.J.
The New Jersey Sea Life Aquarium will be the 10th Sea Life in the United States (the first in the Northeastern U.S.). The 25,000-square-foot one-of-a-kind aquarium will feature “City Under the Sea” theming and serve as the home for more than 3,000 underwater residents, including the ‘Ballet Dancers of the Ocean’ (seahorses), the ‘Wall Street Wolves’ (piranhas), and the ‘Disco DJs of the Deep’ (jellyfish).
“The health of our guests, staff, and sea creatures is of utmost importance, and we are taking every step to prepare for a safe and exciting opening next year,” said general manager Camille DePascale.
Legoland Discovery Center New Jersey, also opening next spring at American Dream, will include Lego build and play zones plus a Lego-themed train ride called the Imagination Express, a 4D cinema playing Lego short films, and a Miniland highlighting New Jersey and New York landmarks.
“Our number one priority is to create fun and educational experiences for families at New Jersey Sea Life Aquarium and Legoland Discovery Center, New Jersey,” DePascale said. “All within a safe and comfortable environment.”
American Dream is re-opening several of its attractions today (Oct. 1, 2020), including Nickelodeon Universe, DreamWorks Water Park, Out of This World Blacklight Mini Golf, and The Rink (for ice skating and hockey). Big Snow—the first indoor, real-snow ski and snowboard center in North America—re-opened on Sept. 1, 2020.
“We know that our community has been waiting to return, but it was important to us that we took the proper time and precautions needed to welcome guests back in the safest possible manner,” said American Dream co-CEO Mark Ghermezian.
