Only the second theme park in the U.S. based entirely on the award-winning show Sesame Street – and the first on the West Coast – Sesame Place San Diego will be open year-round and feature 18 Sesame Street-themed rides, water attractions, an interactive Sesame Street Neighborhood, a musical play area, one-of-a-kind photo opportunities, daily live character shows, and parades.

“Sesame Place San Diego will offer kids and families an immersive opportunity to play and learn with their favorite furry friends, and continue enriching their experiences with Sesame Street,” said Sesame Workshop CEO Steve Youngwood. “We are thrilled to partner with SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment to introduce the West Coast’s only standalone theme park based entirely on the award-winning educational program.”

The new 17-acre park will also open as a Certified Autism Center (CAC), offering specialized services to guests with autism and other special needs. Through a partnership with The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), Sesame Place Team Members will receive specialized training to ensure they have the knowledge, skills, temperament, and expertise to cater to all guests.

“We are thrilled to debut this new park and add a premier tourist destination to California that is so appealing to families,” said SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment CEO Marc Swanson. “Having spent part of my career with this company at the original Sesame Place in Pennsylvania and being part of its success, I’m looking forward to continuing the legacy on the West Coast and providing a fun place to visit where life-long memories are created as fans experience what they love about the iconic show in a new way.”

Sesame Street Neighborhood

From the moment they enter Sesame Place San Diego, guests will be immersed in a colorful and charming replica of the well-known street, complete with the iconic 123 Stoop. The Sesame Street Neighborhood also provides interactive experiences, including Elmo’s Window, which will allow guests to play, dance, and sing with Elmo and friends; the Bike Shop Tricycle Challenge, where kids use their bodies to control a virtual tricycle to collect numbers before the time runs out; and the Sesame Street Apartment Intercom, where guests can hear fun responses from Grover, Rosita, Abby Cadabby, and other Sesame Street friends.

The Sunny Day Carousel in the neighborhood’s center is a colorful version of the classic go-around attraction featuring Sesame Street characters, music, and horses as Big Bird happily greets fans as they ride.

Sesame Place San Diego Rides and Slides

Throughout the park, guests will find a variety of Sesame Street-themed rides and attractions, each designed to a Sesame Street character, including Cookie Climb, where guests pull themselves to the top of Cookie Monster-themed towers; Elmo’s Rockin’ Rockets, which fly on an imaginary trip through outer space; and the family-friendly Super Grover’s Box Car Derby roller coaster.

Park visitors will also want to bring their swimsuits for splashy fun on water attractions like Bert’s Topsy Turvy Tunnels, Snuffy’s Spaghetti Slides, and Oscar’s Rotten Rafts. Big Bird’s Beach is a family-friendly, 500,000-gallon wave pool surrounded by Big Bird’s Rambling River, and the Count’s Splash Castle is a multi-level, interactive water play attraction with a 500-gallon water bucket drop.
