Shrek is love. Shrek is life. Shrek is … Christmas.

For the first time ever, Far Far Away Castle (aka Shrek’s castle) at Universal Studios Singapore will become a canvas for projection mapping, as announced Nov. 5, 2024. The visual effects will debut during “DreamWorks Animation Holiday Spectacular,” a new show featuring imagery from “Shrek,” “Madagascar,” “Kung Fu Panda,” and “Trolls.”

The show is part of A Universal Christmas, a park-wide celebration featuring Shrek and other characters, taking place Nov. 29, 2024 – Jan. 1, 2025. The festivities will also include meet & greets with Elphaba, Glinda, and the Wizard from “Wicked.”

Shrek’s castle is home to Shrek 4-D at Universal Studios Singapor

The Shrek 4-D attraction may be long gone in Universal’s U.S. theme parks, but it’s alive and well in Singapore, where it’s known as Shrek 4-D Adventure and located behind an ornate façade depicting Far Far Away Castle from the films. In the states, the attraction was only ever housed in a nondescript soundstage.

Far Far Away Castle stands 40 meters (or 131 feet) tall, according to the Singapore Academy of Corporate Management. For reference, Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom is 189 feet tall while Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland is 77 feet tall.

Projection-mapping on Shrek’s castle at Universal Studios Singapore joins a long tradition of projections upon theme park castles. Beginning in 2011 at Magic Kingdom, castles have substituted for screens during nighttime shows at parks around the globe, including the perennially returning spectacle “The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle” at Universal Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Hollywood.
