Space 220 adds new beverage menu as it reaches 2nd anniversary

Space 220 Restaurant recently celebrated its second anniversary of operating in Epcot at Walt Disney World, and we were invited to try their new and redesigned beverages.

Space 220 Beverages

Space 220 functions as a table service restaurant where, thanks to Disney-style storytelling elements and technology, guests are transported via a “Stellarvator” from the park to a space station 220 miles above the resort.

Space 220: The Basics

Despite being open for two years, Space 220 Restaurant continues to be the most challenging advanced dining reservation to acquire at Epcot. The main Space 220 Restaurant dining room serves a two-course lunch and three-course dinner, while the Space 220 lounge area serves an a la carte menu.

Space 220

Guests enter Space 220 Restaurant next to the Mission: Space attraction at Epcot. After checking in with the outdoor host, diners receive a boarding pass and enter the indoor check-in area.

At this point, immersion starts. A cast member will bring your group into the Stellarvator and you will then “travel” 220 miles up to the Centauri Space Station, orbiting the Earth for your dining experience.

Inside the Stellarvator, guests stand around a circular railing where they can look up or down as the elevator leaves Epcot. As the elevator goes up, guests will see the world getting smaller as they draw closer to the dining experience.

When guests exit the elevator, they enter an airlock hallway where a large rotating wheel of produce presents the idea that these are used in the restaurant. There is also a wall of wine in special airlock compartments. After this, guests are seated in the main dining room.

When guests enter the main dining area, they will be struck by the gigantic “windows” with a view of space.  For entertainment, guests can watch the activity outside the windows.

Space 220 New and Redesigned Beverage Lineup

The primary purpose for our visit was to try the menu of zero-proof mocktails and signature cocktails, which were introduced as the out-of-this-world dining experience marked its second anniversary of galactic excellence.

Space 220 Zero-Proof Mocktails

  • Starship Lemonade – butterfly pea flower, lemonade, sprite, glow cube
  • Moon Rocks – lemon juice, blue cotton candy syrup, sprite, pineapple juice, pop rocks
  • Solar Flare Sour – Lyre’s Agave Blanco non-alcoholic tequila, mango, lime juice, grapefruit bitters, fever tree tonic water (guests must be 21 years old to enjoy)

Our beverage tour in space started with the mocktails. We enjoyed all three mocktails listed above, but our favorite was the Moon Rocks beverage, which comes with a package of “Pop Rocks” candy. The Moon Rocks beverage received an adjustment from the previous version sold here and now contains pineapple juice where the previous version contained coconut. We prefer this new version.

The Starship Lemonade makes an excellent kids’ drink. It also pleased those of us who act like kids. One should note that the adult version comes in a normal-looking glass with a glow cube. The kids’ version appears in a cute starship-looking drink container at your table. We learned during this visit that the trading cards are no longer being given out.

Although it is considered a mocktail, based on some of the components, The Solar Flare Sour can only be served to those 21 years of age or older. This drink brought some of the feel of a Whiskey Sour without the full alcohol content.

We sampled all the new beverages in the cocktail category, some of which beverages qualify as updates to previous Space 220 drinks. Since alcoholic beverage preferences are very personal, we will share our highlights of the experience.

The Illumination cocktail features passion fruit boba, which is a nice touch. We enjoyed the flavor and distinctiveness of this.

For those looking for a sweeter beverage, we recommend the Shuttle Crew. In addition, the tang foam on top presents a distinctive flavor and texture.

New Beverage Menu Wheel

An interesting change involves the new beverage menu. This playful wheel shows all the specialty beverage choices; however, the unique design shows only one beverage at a time. Guests turn the inner portion to read the descriptions of each beverage and the names of each drink can be seen on the outer portion of the menu wheel.

Our Experience

For the record, we did not drink an entire glass of each one of these beverages, as that would have been a foolish way to start our day at Epcot. Still, with the numerous options at Space 220, guests should be able to find a beverage they’ll enjoy to pair with lunch or dinner.
