Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will make its final voyage in September
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser opened March 1, 2022, at Walt Disney World Resort as a first-of-its-kind highly-immersive two-night experience in a galaxy far, far away, but today Disney announced the Halcyon Starcruiser will make its final voyage on Sept. 28-30, 2023.
Despite positive reviews from the thousands of guests who have experienced it firsthand and being recognized with the Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement from the Themed Entertainment Association – one of the industry’s highest honors – a decline in bookings that initially prompted reduced rates on select voyages for Walt Disney World annual passholders and Disney Visa cardholders has now led to the Starcruiser’s September closure.
A statement released by Walt Disney World reads:
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment. This premium boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.
Among the immersive experiences, Disney Imagineers were able to create onboard Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was creating a “real” lightsaber more than 45 years after the first Star Wars film, developing technology to integrate physical, digital, and live entertainment elements into a unique experience for each guest; and most notably, creating an environment where guests and cast members become fully immersed in their own Star Wars story.
“We want to deliver immersive experiences at an even greater scale, so we are taking this creative spirit and all we’ve learned with this premium, boutique experience of 100 rooms to focus on future initiatives that can reach more of our guests and fans,” Disney said. “We are so proud of all of the cast members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and look forward to delivering an excellent experience for guests during the remaining voyages over the coming months.”
Brooke McDonald posted on Twitter that guests with bookings after Sept. 30th will be contacted to modify their reservation.
Bookings will re-open for remaining Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser voyages on May 26, 2023; however, the previously offered 30% Annual Passholder and Disney Visa discounts will not be available. Click here for more information.
