Introducing Professor Screamore of SteamTown at Six Flags America
Six Flags America’s new SteamTown land, opening June 2024, will tell the story of an eccentric character named Professor Screamore.
Update, June 5, 2024, 1:17 p.m.: Six Flags America has announced that SteamTown will open June 22, 2024.

The amusement park in Bowie, Md. (near Baltimore) will introduce one new ride and reintroduce three existing rides as part of the SteamTown project.

The Lore of SteamTown at Six Flags America
SteamTown’s backstory spotlights an original character, Professor Screamore. The lore even involves Coyote Creek, the previous tenant of SteamTown’s real estate in fact and fiction.

The town of Coyote Creek was purchased in secrecy by Professor Screamore. After many years in the making, the professor is finally ready to share his creations with the world. Guests are now invited to SteamTown to revel in the odysseys, feel the force of evolution, and twist their minds in the unexpected.

SteamTown Attractions
The new SteamWhirler is a flat ride built by Zamperla. The ride’s four arms spin (but never go upside-down), seeming to barely miss contact with one another in a mesmerizing dance. Variations of this ride system, which is called NebulaZ, have started popping up at several parks the past few years (like Carowinds, where it’s known as Gear Spin).

We first saw the NebulaZ system in action at IAAPA 2019.
Three existing attractions have been refreshed and rethemed for SteamTown’s debut
The roller coaster formerly known as Mind Eraser is now Professor Screamore’s SkyWinder, themed to “the innovation of flight” and complete with two new coaster trains.
Previously called Renegade Rapids, the QuantumCanyon Rapids attraction involves Professor Screamore sending riders back 200 million years to the age of the dinosaurs.

Lastly, the Coyote Creek Crazy Cars (aka the bumper cars) attraction is now ElectroDerby, themed to Professor Screamore harnessing electricity.
Guests can see Professor Screamore in person during the “SteamHeist” stunt show. In the production, Professor Screamore shares how he developed the town.

Six Flags America has not yet announced a specific opening date for SteamTown beyond “June 2024.”
