Suspended swinging family roller coaster coming to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

Busch Gardens in Tampa just announced a new suspended swinging family roller coaster with onboard audio – Phoenix Rising! It’s being built to “soar above the Serengeti Plain” starting in spring 2024.

Phoenix Rising will be the park’s 10th roller coaster, and the largest family-friendly addition to the Pantopia area of the park. This suspended roller coaster will enable ride cars to swing side to side as the train races along the track above the Serengeti Plain. It will be Busch Gardens’ first coaster to feature on-board audio, enhancing the ride experience with a one-of-a-kind soundtrack.

Manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, Phoenix Rising will travel at speeds up to 44 miles per hour throughout a 1,831-feet journey. The minimum height requirement is 42 inches. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay currently has another suspended roller coaster, Montu, but it’s high thrill instead of family friendly.

“Phoenix Rising will be an extraordinary journey for our seasoned coaster enthusiasts and younger thrill-seekers alike,” said Stewart Clark, president of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. “Joining a comprehensive coaster collection, this new attraction reinforces our commitment to provide guests with new, immersive and one-of-a-kind experiences.”

Busch Gardens announced the SandSerpent roller coaster closing earlier this year. This new roller coaster replaces it. SandSerpent had its last day of operation on July 4, 2023.
