Take a virtual ride in a Blue Origin space capsule at Kennedy Space Center

The first Blue Origin permanent exhibit at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is now open, allowing guests to be just like William Shatner and other celebrities who have officially ridden to space.

The immersive virtual reality (VR) experience takes place within a replica of the New Shepard crew capsule. It features effects alongside actual point-of-view footage recorded during a real launch from the West Texas desert to authentically mimic the rocket’s journey above the Kármán Line, the internationally recognized boundary of space.

Blue Origin is located within the Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex (which opened just last year) and is meant to be an educational tool to make the concept of space travel more accessible to the public and inspire a new generation of space enthusiasts. In addition to the seats within the capsule, there is an accessible option just outside. We were also told a more autism-friendly way to experience the VR launch is in the works.

In addition to the exhibit, Blue Origin installed an official “Club for the Future” mailbox where guests can send postcards to space and back onboard New Shepard as part of its Postcards to Space program.

Founded by Blue Origin, “Club for the Future” is a nonprofit with the mission to inspire and mobilize future generations to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) that benefit the Earth.
