‘The Mummy’ with Brendan Fraser returns to theaters

“The Mummy” returns to theaters nationwide on April 26, 2024, to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

The Mummy

The 1999 action-adventure film starring Oscar winners Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”) and Rachel Weisz (“The Constant Gardner”) earned an impressive $43.4 million domestically during its opening weekend and was one of that year’s highest-grossing movies, both domestically and globally.

“The Mummy” follows the story of adventurer Rick O’Connell (Fraser), Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan (Weisz), and her brother Jonathan (John Hannah). During an expedition to Hamunaptra, the legendary city of the dead, they unwittingly awaken Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), an ancient Egyptian priest cursed to suffer eternal damnation.

“Over the past twenty-five years, ‘The Mummy ‘has become a cornerstone of adventure cinema and has set the bar high for blockbuster entertainment,” said Jim Orr, president of domestic theatrical distribution for Universal Pictures. “As we celebrate its 25th anniversary, we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring it back to the big screen. It’s a fantastic opportunity for both devoted fans and newcomers to immerse themselves in the exhilarating adventure and timeless story that made ‘The Mummy’ an unforgettable cinematic experience.”

The movie’s success resulted in two sequels, spin-off films, a prequel series, and thrilling attractions at Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Hollywood.
