The Zone: Britney Spears exhibit opens in Los Angeles

Oops…she did it again. In the late ’90s, Britney Spears released her first album “…Baby One More Time,” and has been a star in the music industry ever since. She was a staple on MTV’s “Total Request Live” (aka “TRL”) with her exciting and vibrant music videos. Now you can step into the world of Britney’s music videos at “The Zone: Britney Spears” in Los Angeles, Calif.

I will preface my opinions about this “ultimate Britney Spears fan experience” by saying that I am indeed a fan of hers, but not a die-hard fan. I grew up in the “TRL” generation, but I’ve never seen her live in concert. I’d also like to mention that I’ve done quite a few “selfie museums,” and although I sometimes enjoy them, I often find them to be more of a marketing tool than something for which I should have paid admission.

I wanted to make both of those things clear to further emphasize my opinions about this experience.  I loved my time at The Zone: Britney Spears. Due to my level of fandom and opinions on past “similar” experiences, I’m even more impressed with how much I enjoyed this one.

To call it a selfie museum truly isn’t fair, it’s so much more than that. It really is an experience. Each room has interactive elements inside, whether it’s opening lockers or setting off the fire alarm inside the scene from “…Baby One More Time,” or touching the famous diamond from “Oops…I Did it Again,” there are little surprises around every corner.

Of course, throughout the experience, you’ll get to hear Spears’ music playing while you live inside her music videos. When you check-in, you’ll receive a wristband with an RFID chip, allowing you to have even more unique experiences throughout. You’ll find locations that say “scan here,” and at these locations, they will take your photo, shoot a video or boomerang and send all of this content to the app and/or your provided email address.  There are many of these opportunities and all downloads are included with the price of admission.

Have you ever wanted to dance along with Spears in her “Me Against the Music” video? You can here and they take the video for you. One of my favorites offerings was a scene where they’ve set up a red carpet with “paparazzi” taking your photo. When you head into the next room, you’ll scan your RFID wristband to find that you’re on the cover of a magazine.

This whole thing is a fan-generated experience that Spears has helped bring to life and she fully endorses. The exhibit spans across ten rooms and has a retail storefront that will debut five different merchandise collections exclusive to the exhibit.

This 30,000 square foot experience is located on the corner of Fairfax and W 3rd St in Los Angeles (close to The Grove LA). There is no way you can miss this large building, as it’s painted in bright pink with fantastic images of Spears on the front. There’s even a free parking lot available. Tickets can be purchased at BritneyTheZone.com and can be followed on Twitter @BritneyTheZone.

Overall, this experience is sure to satisfy any Britney fan, and in my opinion, is leading the way on how these sorts of pop-up experiences should be produced. I just have one future request: Can we see this with *NSYNC next?
