Uncle O’Grimacey, Grimace reunite for McDonald’s Shamrock Shake 2025
Uncle O’Grimacey reunited with Grimace to celebrate the return of the Shamrock Shake for 2025 at McDonald’s.
The Shamrock Shake will return to McDonald’s restaurants on Feb. 10, 2025 — and this year, an old friend is coming back with them. Uncle O’Grimacey, the long-lost relative of Grimace, is back in the St. Patrick’s Day spotlight, starring in this year’s Shamrock Shake marketing.
Uncle O’Grimacey even has his own line of specialty merchandise, now available online and including a sweatshirt, t-shirts, stickers, a hat, and buttons.
In addition to Uncle O’Grimacey’s mint-flavored Shamrock Shake, McDonald’s will also sell a green Oreo Shamrock McFlurry for the season, confirmed by Guillame Huin, senior marketing director of McDonald’s.
From Feb. 10 – March 23, 2025, 25 cents from every Shamrock Shake purchase will be donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). You can also donate directly online.

This Shamrock Season celebration came to life when Grimace stumbled upon his family’s original Shamrock Shake recipe. That discovery sparked Grimace to reconnect with his vibrant, joyful, and generous uncle, Uncle O’Grimacey. Inspired to reunite with Grimace and support his favorite charity’s 50th milestone, Uncle O’Grimacey packed his bags and embarked on a journey from Sham Rock, Ireland. Now that he’s here, Uncle O’Grimacey is traveling coast-to-coast, spreading Shamrock cheer with fans everywhere and celebrating RMHC and their mission to keep families together.

Grimace enlisted the help of Ancestry.com to track down Uncle O’Grimacey. The character first appeared in 1975.
Grimace and Uncle O’Grimacey themselves appeared on the “Today” show on Feb. 4, 2025 to announce the news.
