Universal Studios Hollywood hosts ‘Day of Giving’ event for children in need
Universal Studios Hollywood recently hosted its 18th annual “Day of Giving” philanthropic event. This event hosts approximately 300 homeless children for a day of theme park fun while donating to them some much-needed (and some simply fun) supplies.
“Day of Giving” is a tradition designed to inspire and connect employees with diverse community organizations. The day-long event features numerous giving opportunities across Los Angeles. Operation School Bell brings approximately 300 homeless children to the front gates of Universal Studios for some donated supplies.
Throughout the lot children are fitted for new pairs of shoes, receive new clothing, a backpack filled with toiletries and school supplies, a book, and they even get to adopt a pet plush toy featuring favorite characters from “The Secret Life of Pets.”
“After they’re done getting all of their supplies, they’ll spend the afternoon in the park,” states Danielle Prado, Director of Community Relations and Team Member Programs. “They’ll get to enjoy some of our attractions, like Super Nintendo World, they’ll have lunch, and they’re accompanied by our Team Members who serve as expert chaperones. “
In addition to this one event, “Day of Giving” features numerous other events throughout Los Angeles with the help of Universal Team Members. On-site employees help create birthday boxes to be given to children in foster care.
Beyond the walls of Universal Studios, Team Member buddies foster a day of fun at a park in North Hollywood thanks to Inclusion Matters, an organization who builds playgrounds for children of all abilities. Universal also partners with Tree People for a beautification project along the LA River in Studio City, and LA Regional Foodbank assembling food boxes for low-income families and seniors.
Overall, this 18th annual “Day of Giving” was another successful one, helping out numerous organizations, thanks to the Team Members at Universal Studios Hollywood.
