Walt Disney World’s water parks to remain closed until 2021

Walt Disney World has shared via an update on their website that both of their water parks, Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, will remain closed until 2021.

Pending government approvals, Disney currently plans to reopen one of the two water parks on March 7, 2021. More details will be shared on a phased reopening plan, as well as which water park will reopen first, at a later date. They also note that this reopening can change, and guests will be notified in a future update if it does.

Disney is offering options to guests affected by this update who have an existing Premier Passport, Platinum Plus Pass, Water Parks Annual Pass, Water Parks After 2 Annual Pass, or tickets that include Park Hopper Plus Option or Water Park & Sports Option:

Ticket Add-Ons

For guests who have a ticket that includes Park Hopper Plus Option or Water Park & Sports Option, you have a few choices:

  • Ticket Modification: Tickets and Disney Resort hotel packages with tickets may be modified. To discuss options, call the Disney Reservation Center at (407) 934-7639 or contact your travel agent.
  • Ticket Cancellation: If you don’t want to use your ticket, you have the option of cancelling your ticket or package. Call the Disney Reservation Center at (407) 566-4985 or contact your travel agent for more information.
  • Ticket Usage: You can use your current date-based ticket with the existing add-on options at other experiences available during your trip.

Currently, guests can purchase new tickets that include the Park Hopper Plus Option or Water Park & Sports Option for admission starting March 7 and later. Sales of Water Parks Annual Passes and 1-Day Water Park Tickets will resume at a later date.

Water Park Tickets

Disney will automatically extend unused, unexpired 1-Day Water Park tickets through Dec. 31, 2021. Alternatively, guests can choose to cancel instead by calling (407) 939-2732. If you can’t visit by that date, you can apply the value of a wholly unused ticket toward the purchase of a ticket for a future date.

Water Park Annual Passes

Water Parks and Water Parks After 2 Annual Passes will be automatically extended for the length of time that both parks are closed. Another option is, of course, to cancel, which you can do by calling (407) 939-2732.

Platinum Plus and Premier Annual Passholders

Platinum Plus and Premier Annual Passholders with water park access will automatically receive a partial refund to make up for the closure. You can learn more about how the refunds are calculated here.

We will keep you updated on any changes related to Disney’s water park closures and their eventual phased reopening.
