Wcdonald’s sauce and WcNuggets debut at McDonald’s

If you’re wondering why your McDonald’s cup has the logo upside down with foreign print on it, McDonald’s has become WcDonald’s, the name used in mangas (Japanese comics) and anime (Japanese animation) to refer to the iconic fast food chain.

The new limited-time anime project includes exclusive WcDonald’s packaging, 10-piece Chicken WcNuggets, and a new WcDonald’s chili sauce (a combination of ginger, garlic, soy, and chili flakes). Crew Members will also rep WcDonald’s with new uniforms.

“At McDonald’s, we’re constantly looking to our guests as a source of inspiration,” said Alyssa Buetikofer, VP and CMO at McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited. “The WcDonald’s universe is a reflection of our fans’ creativity and imagination, and we are thrilled to bring it to Canada in our restaurants and beyond.”

The McDonald’s partnership with anime production company Studio Pierrot and manga artist Acky Bright also includes the release of four mini-episodes and short mangas, which can be unlocked once a week via a QR code on special packaging featuring WcDonald’s Crew characters sketched by Acky or in select manga stores across the U.S.

Each episode and manga will cover a different anime genre, including shoji (romance), shonen (action), fantasy, and mecha battles. Each will also have its own characters from a collection of more than 15, including Hashirune, a WcDonald’s regular, Mr. Bev, the Crew jokester, WcDizer 3000, WcDonald’s very own mecha, and many more.

“I had a great time partnering with McDonald’s to help make WcDonald’s a reality for manga fans who have a genuine love for the brand,” said Acky Bright. “From the details of the diverse Crew characters to the manga plot itself, I loved being able to use my artwork to bring to life the dynamic, vibrant world of WcDonald’s for people around the world.”

  1. Fine, but they charge extra for the sauce on already overpriced food. Another way to squeeze every nickel out of it’s customers.
