Year-Round ‘Walking Dead’ attraction announced for Universal Studios Hollywood
By Seth Kubersky
Better grab your zombie-fighting gear, because an all-new year-round attraction based on AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has just been announced for a Summer 2016 debut at Universal Studios Hollywood. For the past few years, both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida have featured haunted mazes and scarezones inspired by the hit television series, but this will be the first time that the undead franchise has been a permanent part of Universal’s parks.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world where the undead walk the earth, Universal Studios Hollywood’s new “Walking Dead” attraction will be a “fully immersive” walk-through experience populated with both live actors and animatronic figures. Guests will be following in the footsteps of the TV show’s living characters, seeing sets and special effects designed in collaboration with the series’ creative team, including executive producer and director Greg Nicotero.
Here is the official announcement video for The Walking Dead attraction, direct from Universal Studios Hollywood and AMC:
Note that Universal Studios Hollywood’s new walk-through attraction will not be the interactive dark ride advertised by Sally Corp. at last year’s IAAPA convention.
The new “Walking Dead” attraction will be found on Universal Studios Hollywood’s upper lot, in roughly the same place that the former House of Horrors haunted maze was located. No firm opening date has been announced, but it is expected to be open before (and during) Halloween Horror Nights.
If you just can’t wait for the walkers, here is some more bloody good concept art to chew on:
Hey, Does anyone know if this attraction will be coming to Universal Florida or is it only going to be at the Hollywood Park?
