The list includes Disney and Pixar’s “Onward” and “Soul” (both streaming now on Disney+), as well as DreamWorks Animation’s “Trolls World Tour” (streaming on Hulu and Peacock) and “The Croods: A New Age” (available on Amazon Prime and scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment on Feb. 23, 2021). Also on the list are Warner Animation Group’s “Scoob!” (available on HBO Max) and “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run,” which will premiere on Paramount+ on March 4, 2021.

Voting by members of the Academy will determine the five nominees for Best Animated Feature Film. The Academy’s Short Films and Feature Animation Branch members are automatically eligible to vote in the category; members outside the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch are allowed to vote in the category, but only after meeting a minimum viewing requirement. Also, some of the list’s films have not yet had their required qualifying release, so they must fulfill that requirement (and comply with all the category’s other qualifying rules) before they can advance in the voting process.

Films submitted in the Animated Feature Film category can also qualify for Academy Awards in other categories, including Best Picture.

Following are the 27 eligible animated films:

  • “Accidental Luxuriance of the Translucent Watery Rebus”
