As someone who has never seen any version of “Les Misérables” before this production, I had a very different understanding of what the show was about.
While I remember enjoying the 2014 live-action reimagining of Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty,” “Maleficent,” I could barely remember the details of the world-building and went into “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” with pretty low expectations. Luckily, the film exceeded them.
I only enjoyed watching “The Lion King” (2019) because I haven’t watched the 1994 film since I was probably at most 9 or 10 years old, and even still, I would have preferred to rewatch the original.
