Animal Kingdom Welcomes Baby Elephant

Corra is 218 pounds and the park’s first second-generation baby elephant, Disney shared. Nadirah was born at Animal Kingdom in 2005. Corra’s other onsite relatives include Donna (her grandmother) and Stella (her aunt).

Nadirah’s 22-month pregnancy was part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan.

Dr. Mark Penning is the vice president of Disney’s Animals, Science, & Environment. In an Instagram post, Dr. Penning wrote:

“I’m over the moon to share that for the first time since 2016, an African elephant calf was born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. It’s been very special for me and the team to watch first-time mother Nadirah embrace her new motherly instincts and nurture the sweet bond with her baby girl.”

More Elephants at Animal Kingdom

Guests can see elephants at Disney’s Animal Kingdom as part of the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction. Corra is currently still backstage under the care of Nadirah and the park’s animal teams.

Baby elephant Corra might be the park’s newest animal, but a handful of residents have called Disney’s Animal Kingdom home since opening day in 1998.

Guests can go backstage to learn more about the park’s elephants during the “Caring for Giants” tour. From home, animal enthusiasts can watch the real-life stories of the park’s creatures in “The Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom” on Disney+.
