‘Beauty and the Beast’ stage musical announces 2025 North American tour
This is a tale as old as time, so it’s no surprise a newly-reimagined production of Disney’s beloved story is going on a North American tour in June 2025. This also marks the 30th anniversary of “Beauty and the Beast”.
The exciting news was announced on Jan. 25, 2024 by the Disney Theatrical Group, which is under the direction of Andrew Flatt, Anne Quart, and Thomas Schumacher.
“How proud we are to bring this refreshed and human take on the show – with the scale and spectacle the title deserves – to longtime fans and an entirely new generation,” said Disney Theatrical Group Chief Creative Officer Thomas Schumacher. “This Beauty is for them.”
The stage musical is based on the movie Disney fans know and love. Production members of the original Tony Award-winning artistic team are also returning, including composer Alan Menken, who wrote the film’s score with the late lyricist Howard Ashman.
Guests can expect to hear songs from the animated film, like “Be Our Guest”, along with newer songs written by Menken and Tim Rice, like “If I Can’t Love Her” and “A Change In Me”.
“Beauty and the Beast” North American Tour
The new tour will hold technical rehearsals and launch in Schenectady, N.Y. in June 2025, before the official opening at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago, Ill. in July and a stop at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, Minn. in August. Casting and the full two-year tour route will be announced at a later date.
The Broadway production of “Beauty and the Beast” ran for 13 years from 1994 – 2007 and remains one of the top 10 longest-running and highest-grossing Broadway shows of all time. Previous Disney-produced North American Tours of “Beauty and the Beast” played for almost eight years from Nov. 1995 – Aug. 2003, for a combined total of 2,893 performances.
