Blackpool Pleasure Beach has announced the official opening date of its new rollercoaster, Icon, which will open to guests on Friday, May 25.
Since work on this new £16.25 million rollercoaster began in December 2016, rollercoaster fans have been waiting for news of when this new experience would open.
Now park officials have confirmed that the wait is almost over, and that the “world’s most interactive rollercoaster” will be ready to ride in a little over a month.
“We’ve been overwhelmed with calls and e-mails from people all over the world wanting to know when Icon will be open to the public,” said Amanda Thompson, managing director for Blackpool Pleasure Beach. “We can’t wait to invite those who dare to ride to Blackpool to experience this truly incredible ride.”
“The launch of Icon is an extremely exciting day for our industry, both in the U.K. and beyond,” said Nick Thompson, deputy MD of Blackpool Pleasure Beach. “We couldn’t be more pleased to see and experience it here in the UK and to showcase another world first at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.”
When it opens, Icon will be the United Kingdom’s first-ever double-launch rollercoaster, taking riders at speeds over 50 miles per hour during the two and a half minutes of the coaster’s thrills.
